Reaching HRI

HRI is located at Jhusi, on the outskirts of Allahabad, which is connected by air, train, and road, to major cities of India. An accompanying document contains information on how to reach HRI.

Accommodation

Most members of the Institute live in the Institute campus at Jhusi, Allahabad. Visitors are accommodated in the Institute Guest House in the campus, and, sometimes, in furnished houses, also in the campus.

There is a regular bus service, run by the Institute, between Allahabad city, and the campus. The schedule of bus trips is available.

Tourism

Located 125 km. from Varanasi, at the junction of the rivers Ganga and Yamuna, Allahabad is an interesting tourist destination, and is one of the important cities of Uttar Pradesh. An accompanying page contains some basic information about Allahabad.

Allahabad has a historic fort, built by Akbar, which contains an Ashoka pillar. The city contains the Nehru family home, Anand Bhavan, which is open to visitors, and is of historical interest. The Allahabad Museum has a fine collection of paintings, and terracotta figures. Khusru Bagh, a garden near the railway station, contains the tomb of Prince Khusru, Jehangir's son.

Varanasi, Sarnath, and Lucknow, are a day trip away from Allahabad. Khajuraho is another place that one can visit from Allahabad. One can take a flight from Varanasi to Khajuraho, or take a train to Satna, and a bus from there to Khajuraho.

Please see the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department Web site for more information on Allahabad.
